Veteran film and TV music supervisor and producer Anton Monsted has joined Capitol Music Group in the newly created role of executive vice president of soundtracks and A&R, it was announced on Tuesday by CMG President Ashley Newton and COO Michelle Jubelirer.
At Capitol, Monsted will act as the label group’s chief liaison to the film and television communities and oversee all elements of the company’s various soundtrack projects. He’ll report to Newton and be based out of the Capitol Tower in Hollywood.
“The powerful union of music, film and television is so vibrant and important, and we have finally found the ideal creative executive to represent us in this realm,” commented Newton. “Anton brings with him taste, expertise and strong relationships as well as an impressive pedigree of success.”
Prior to CMG, Monsted was senior vp of music at Twentieth Century Fox, where he supervised the music being produced for TCF as well as Fox 2000, Fox Searchlight and Fox Animation. His recent music projects at the studio included last year’s The Greatest Showman and Logan, as well as 2016’s SAG award-winning Hidden Figures, which included original music by Hans Zimmer and Pharrell Williams.
In Hollywood, Monsted has also enjoyed a highly successful working partnership with director Baz Luhrmann dating back more than 20 years. He started his career as an assistant on Luhrmann’s 1996 film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo+Juliet and a year later the pair scored a surprise hit with the spoken word track “Everybody’s Free (To Wear Sunscreen).” Luhrmann then tapped Monsted as music supervisor and executive music producer for his next film, 2001’s Moulin Rouge, which earned eight Oscar nominations and a No. 1 hit single with “Lady Marmalade.”
Monsted and Luhrmann collaborated yet again in 2008 with Australia and for a final time in 2013 with The Great Gatsby.
