Andrew Ripp Tops Christian Airplay Chart With ‘Jericho,’ Talks ‘Ability to Enjoy the Ride’

Andrew Ripp‘s debut single “Jericho” rises 2-1 on Billboard‘s Christian Airplay chart dated March 6.
It the tracking week ending Feb. 28, the song, which Ripp wrote with Ethan Hulse, increased by 3% to 10.1 million audience impressions, according to MRC Data.
“‘Jericho’ is the result of trying less and trusting more,” Ripp tells Billboard. “I took a two-year break from music to let go of my dream and make room for something new. This gave me new perspective, fresh inspiration and, most of all, the ability to enjoy the ride.”
The song is the first rookie single to top Christian Airplay since Cain’s “Rise Up (Lazarus),” which began a four-week stay in the penthouse in December. It’s the first introductory song by a solo male to lead since Cory Asbury’s “Reckless Love” spent 13 weeks on top starting in April 2018.
Ripp, from Chicago, broke through with his co-writing credit on Zach Williams’ “Rescue Story,” which reached No. 2 on Christian Airplay last year. Ripp’s first LP, Evergreen, is due in May.
HIS ‘WAY’ IN tobyMac debuts on Billboard‘s Hot Christian Songs chart, which is powered by airplay, sales and streaming data, with “Help Is on the Way (Maybe Midnight)” at No. 11.
The song marks tobyMac’s 45th entry and third-highest start. “I Just Need U” arrived at the pinnacle in January 2018, becoming his sixth and most recent No. 1, and “21 Years” opened at its No. 3 peak in January 2020.
The new track sold 4,000 downloads in the week ending Feb. 25 and bows atop Christian Digital Song Sales, awarding tobyMac his seventh leader and fifth No. 1 start. It also opens with 1.1 million U.S. streams. On Christian Airplay, it flies 35-21 with 924,000 impressions.
DAIGLE’S RETURN Lauren Daigle is back with her first new music in the Christian genre since 2018, as “Hold on to Me” enters Christian Airplay at No. 25 with 479,000 impressions.
The song was released to digital and streaming platforms Feb. 26 and is set to debut on next week’s Hot Christian Songs chart (dated March 13).
“Hold,” which Daigle co-wrote, marks her 17th Christian Airplay entry, a sum that includes four No. 1s among 12 top 10s. The Louisiana-born artist’s crossover smash “You Say” dominated Christian Airplay for 18 weeks starting in September 2018. On the current, March 6-dated Hot Christian Songs chart, the ballad banks its record-extending 119th frame at the summit.
“You Say” is from Daigle’s 2018 album Look Up Child, which entered at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums that September and dominates the list this week for a record-extending 91st week.
This January, Daigle scored a No. 1 on Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart as featured on Petey Martin‘s “Come Back Home.” The track, which also bowed at No. 18 that week on the multi-metric Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, marks Daigle’s first appearance in the genre.
