Anderson East Debuts at No. 1 on Emerging Artists Chart

Anderson East is the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time, as the singer-songwriter debuts atop Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated Jan. 27).

Anderson East is the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time, as the singer-songwriter debuts atop Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart (dated Jan. 27).

The Emerging Artists chart uses the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard‘s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

East’s lofty debut is powered by his new album Encore, which launches at No. 1 on the Americana/Folk Album Sales chart. It also starts at No. 5 on the Top Rock Albums chart with 10,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music. The set’s “All on My Mind” debuts on the Hot Rock Songs chart at No. 35 after topping the Adult Alternative Songs chart dated Dec. 23.

East is the first act to debut atop Emerging Artists since PVRIS on the Sept. 16-dated tally.

Rounding out the chart’s top five, Russell Dickerson falls 1-2, MAX holds at No. 3, Walker Hayes drops 2-4 and LANCO dips 4-5.

Elsewhere, Zendaya leaps into the Emerging Artists top 10 for the first time, jumping 11-6 on the strength of her songs from The Greatest Showman. Two tracks from the film’s soundtrack are on the Hot 100: “Rewrite the Stars,” with Zac Efron, reaches a new peak at No. 70 and “The Greatest Show,” with Hugh Jackman, Keala Settle (No. 12 on Emerging Artists), Efron and The Greatest Showman Ensemble, bullets at No. 89 (after reaching No. 88 last week).
