Amazon Music now has more than 55 million customers globally across all its streaming offerings, while subscriptions to its premium Amazon Music Unlimited service grew by more than 50 percent over 2019.
Amazon Music shared the new metrics in a blog post today (Jan. 22). According to the post, Amazon Music has also grown nearly 50% year-over-year across the U.S., U.K., Germany and Japan, while its customer base has more than doubled in countries where the service was only recently added, like France, Italy, Spain and Mexico. Today, the streaming service is available in more than 40 countries around the world.
Amazon Music offers several ways to listen, included Prime Music (included with every Amazon Prime subscription), Prime Music Unlimited (which costs $7.99/month for Prime members and $9.99/month for non-Prime members); and a free, ad-supported tier, which launched last year.
“We’re proud to reach this incredible milestone and are overwhelmed by our customers’ response to Amazon Music,” said Amazon Music vice president Steve Boom. “Our strategy is unique and, like everything we do at Amazon, starts with our customers.
“We’ve always been focused on expanding the marketplace for music streaming by offering music listener’s unparalleled choice because we know that different listeners have different needs,” he continued. “As we continue to lead in our investment in voice with Alexa, and in high-quality audio with Amazon Music HD, we’re excited to bring our customers and the music industry even more innovation in 2020 and beyond.”
Back in July, a Financial Times report named Amazon the fastest-growing music streaming service globally, with more than 32 million subscribers worldwide at the time. The report also stated that Amazon Music Unlimited had grown 70% over the past year.
