Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos Extends Olive Branch to Donald Trump

It would appear Bezos has taken notice of his falling stock price (down 5 percent), and on Thursday morning the CEO sent out a congratulatory tweet to the next POTUS.

Last month, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said he regretted not taking Donald Trump’s candidacy more seriously, warning that some of the then-candidate’s rhetoric on the campaign trail “erodes our democracy around the edges.” Fast-forward a few weeks and now Trump — who has been very critical of Bezos — is the next President and Amazon’s stock price is taking a hit.

It would appear Bezos has taken notice of his falling stock price (down 5 percent), and on Thursday morning the CEO sent out a congratulatory tweet to the next POTUS. “Congratulations to @realDonaldTrump,” Bezos wrote. “I for one give him my most open mind and wish him great success in his service to the country.”

Whether Trump will appreciate the congrats from Bezos is anyone’s guess, but during the campaign he often criticized the tech billionaire for purchasing the Washington Post, claiming he “wants political influence so that Amazon will benefit from it. That’s not right. And believe me, if I become president, oh, do they have problems. They’re going to have such problems.”

Another reason for Bezos (and everyone else) to worry: Trump surrogate Omarosa said this week that the campaign keeps a “list” of enemies.

Bezos’ olive branch follows a similarly innocuous statement from Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. “Yesterday we witnessed the democratic process in action here in the US,” he wrote on LinekedIn. “The results are of importance around the world, and I know that interest is shared among Microsoft employees. We congratulate the president-elect, and look forward to working with all those elected yesterday. Our commitment to our mission and values are steadfast, and in particular fostering a diverse and inclusive culture.”
