Rising alternative pop force Rei Ami has signed with Visionary Records, Billboard can exclusively announce.
The South Korean-born, Maryland-raised talent began making waves in Fall 2019 with a string of commanding singles topped by “Snowcone” in October, which has since garnered over 5.5 million views on YouTube alone. Under her immediately distinctive stage name that combines the alter egos and competing personalities of two Sailor Moon characters, Rei Ami’s style shifts from hip-hop to bedroom pop and every vibe in between.
For Visionary, it’s yet another addition to their growing roster since its founding under Chris Zarou in 2019 after a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment. In 2020, the label has thus far released emerging Florida rapper LBS Kee’vin’s Belair Baby in April and Sarah Barrios’ debut EP Letters I Never Sent in July.
Though the label teases a full mixtape from Rei Ami in the coming months, her first offering on Visionary, titled “Mac and Cheese,” arrives on Friday (Sept. 25).
“This is me in a song,” she tells Billboard. “I have a lot of chaotic energy inside and I had to let it out. It’s a fun, confidence-boosting song that I want everyone to enjoy listening to!”
