Alicia Keys Moves Catalog to Universal Music Publishing Group

The deal marks a reunion for Keys and UMPG chairman/CEO Jody Gerson, who signed Keys to her first music publishing deal at EMI Music Publishing when the artist was just 14 years old.

Universal Music Publishing Group has signed Alicia Keys to an exclusive administration deal, covering the Grammy-winning singer-songwriter and producer’s iconic catalog of both existing and future works.

That includes hits like “No One,” “Fallin,” “My Boo,” “Empire State of Mind” and “Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” stretching back to Keys’ 2001 debut album Songs In A Minor

The deal marks a reunion for Keys and UMPG chairman/CEO Jody Gerson, who signed Keys to her first music publishing deal at EMI Music Publishing when the artist was just 14 years old. Keys subsequently worked with Sony/ATV Music Publishing, where Gerson formerly served as co-president, after it acquired EMI in 2018.

“We shared tremendous success together over time and our relationship grew from a professional, publisher-songwriter relationship into a deep, personal friendship,” Gerson said. “Now, it is an honor to bring Alicia into my UMPG family.

“In the many years I’ve known Alicia, she has risen to become of the biggest names in music and an icon in art and culture whose songs are celebrated by fans around the world,” continued Gerson. “I respect her tremendously as a songwriter, producer, performer, artist, mother, businesswoman, and as a person who is in control and standing in her power. Our UMPG global team looks forward to delivering outstanding creative opportunities in support of her timeless music.”

Keys, now 38, has won 15 Grammy Awards over her career, notching four No. 1 debuts on the Billboard 200 albums chart. Outside of her musical work, she’s also an author, film/television and Broadway producer, philanthropist and activist.
