The rising solo star who was introduced with a powerful cyborg-rebel-diva persona on first single “Bomb” has signed with ICM Partners, Billboard can exclusively reveal today (March 3).
The agency’s primary priority for the 23-year-old Oklahoma native and former Produce 48 competitor will be assisting in her crossover to the U.S. market not only as a singer, but in areas like TV, movies, festivals and more. ICM is home to fellow international names like Nicki Minaj, Khalid, Kehlani and Yuna.
The agency contract with ICM was signed by ZB Label, the newly established subsidiary label of K-pop music-video production company Zanbyros that boasts AleXa as their first artist.
AleXa tells Billboard that fans can have high expectations. “I look forward to working closely together to create something amazing,” the star says in a statement. “Signing with ICM is such a great honor — never did I think that I would have an opportunity to sign with such an esteemed company. I am grateful for our newfound partnership.”
“The unique concept and stage presence of American-born AleXa is so much stronger than expected of a rookie, making it possible for her to compete in the U.S. market,” says Jon Pleeter, vice president of Concerts at ICM Partners. “ICM will provide AleXa with the necessary support not just as a singer, but as an actress and performer. As time goes by, AleXa’s potential will make it even easier for her to become a central figure on the global stage of entertainment.”
Kim Junhong, CEO of Zanybros, adds, “In the wake of the global rise of the Korean wave, AleXa is ready to make a stance on the international stage.”
One of the first moves in the partnership with be when AleXa’s new single “Do or Die” is released on March 6. AleXa and Zanybros have been hyping up the track with a 20-second snippet of the audio, as well as an intense, dance-focused “A.I Trooper” video that acts as a trailer for what to expect in this next chapter in AleXa’s apocalypse-meets-streets-of-Seoul saga.
ZB Label shares that after promotions in Korea have wrapped, AleXa and her team will embark on a media tour in the U.S. which will include “forging collaborations with top content creators and marking AleXa’s first step into the American mainstream.”
Earlier this year, four partners at ICM — Rob Prinz, Steve Levine, Mark Siegel and Robert Gibbs — were honored on the 2020 Billboard Power List.
