Alesso Debuts at No. 1 On Top Dance/Electronic Albums

Plus, chart action from Calvin Harris, Avicii, and more.

Alesso strikes at No. 1 on Top Dance/Electronic Albums with the chart-topping bow of his debut album Forever (on the list dated June 13).

The set sold 9,000 copies in the week ending May 31, according to Nielsen Music. Over on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, the Swedish DJ/producer had already charted with four tracks from the album and this week adds two more: “Scars,” featuring Ryan Tedder (No. 40) and “Sweet Escape,” featuring Sirena (No. 44).

The set was led by the smash single “Heroes (We Could Be),” featuring Tove Lo, which hit No. 2 in January (and No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100) after leading both Dance Club Songs and Dance/Mix Show Airplay.

Meanwhile, Calvin Harris has netted his seventh Hot Dance/Electronic Songs top 10 hit with “Pray To God,” featuring HAIM (rising 12-8). The track is up across the board in sales, airplay and streams, and ties Harris with Zedd for the most top 10 tracks since the chart’s Jan. 26, 2013 launch.

Hailing from Harris’ album Motion, released last year, “Pray” debuted at No. 24 on the Nov. 22-dated chart as an album cut, but caught fire in recent months as an official single. Its 30-week rise into the top 10 (owed to how the single wasn’t officially promoted until relatively recently) is the slowest rise to the region in more than a year. The last song to take longer to reach the top 10 was Disclosure‘s “Latch,” which hit the region in its 33rd chart week (April 25, 2014).

Elsewhere on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, Avicii soars 46-11 with “Waiting For Love,” powered by a huge sales increase (15,000 downloads sold, up 184 percent). Released on a Friday (May 22) instead of the customary Tuesday, this past tracking week served as its first full of week of sales. “Waiting,” driven by uncredited vocals from Simon Aldred of the band Cherry Ghost and to be included on Avicii’s forthcoming album Stories, also leaps 25-6 on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs chart. It’s the Swede’s third consecutive top 10 — following “The Nights” (No. 7) and “The Days” (No. 5) — and his sixth to date.

Shifting to the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, DJ Snake & AlunaGeorge slither to No. 1 with “You Know You Like It” (5-1). It’s the first chart topper for each.

And on the Dance Club Songsn chart, Audien achieves his first No. 1 with “Insomnia” (2-1). The track, featuring Parson James (also the vocalist on Kygo‘s “Stole The Show,” currently No. 14 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs), is the second “Insomnia” to top the chart: 18-years ago, Faithless’ “Insomnia” (same name, but different song) spent two weeks at No. 1. Remixes from Starkillers and Ashley Wallbridge also helped Audien ascend to the apex.
