Two classics hit Billboard‘s Hot Rock Songs chart following syncs in commercials that aired during Super Bowl LII, broadcast on NBC Feb. 4.
Aerosmith‘s signature ’70s song “Dream On” debuts on the chart (which launched in 2009) at No. 11, sparked by its inclusion in a Kia ad starring frontman Steven Tyler (both present-day and in a more youthful incarnation). The song sold 2,000 downloads (up 131 percent) and drew 3.5 million U.S. streams (up 13 percent) in the week ending Feb. 8, according to Nielsen Music.
Additionally, Queen‘s 1977 anthem “We Will Rock You,” featured in a Ram Trucks ad that aired during the Super Bowl, bows at No. 13 (3,000 sold, up 56 percent, and 2.7 million streams, up 13 percent).
Aerosmith makes its first appearance on Hot Rock Songs, while Queen previously charted with “Let Me in Your Heart Again,” first recorded in 1983 but not released until 2014, when it reached No. 47, and 1981’s David Bowie collab “Under Pressure,” which hit No. 5 in January 2016 after Bowie’s passing.
CHVRCHES Return: Meanwhile, CHVRCHES blast back onto Hot Rock Songs at No. 17 with “Get Out,” the lead single from the synth-pop trio’s upcoming third album. The track equals the band’s career-best start and peak first set by “Leave a Trace” in August 2015.
As for radio, “Get Out” begins at No. 37 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart.
The track opens at No. 15 on Rock Digital Song Sales with 4,000 downloads sold, marking the group’s best debut and rank on the chart.
CHVRCHES co-wrote “Get Out” with pop powerhouse Greg Kurstin, who solely produced the song. Kurstin’s resume includes three Billboard Hot 100 No. 1s that he produced and co-wrote: Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” (three weeks, 2012); Adele’s “Hello” (10 weeks, 2015-16); and Sia’s “Cheap Thrills,” featuring Sean Paul (four weeks, 2016).
CHVRCHES’ new album does not currently have an announced release date.
