3LAU Launches Charity Label BLUME, Aims to Raise $100K in 2016: Exclusive
Billboard Dance is exclusively announcing the launch of 3LAU's charity label BLUME, which is billed as the "first not-for-profit dance music label and philanthropic movement."
Giving back has always been 3LAU‘s MO.
Over the past three years, the Las Vegas DJ/producer — born Justin Blau — has raised nearly $100,000 for Pencils of Promise (PoP), an education nonprofit that funds school construction in the developing world.

In 2013, Blau visited the first school constructed with his fundraising in Justo Rafino, Guatemala, which he describes as a “life-changing” experience that inspired him to broaden his philanthropic footprint.
To that aim, Billboard Dance is exclusively announcing the launch of 3LAU’s charity label BLUME, which is billed as the “first not-for-profit dance music label and philanthropic movement.”

Kicking off the digital label with the April 8 release of his new single, “Is It Love?,” Blau aims to raise an additional $100,000 for PoP this year by donating all proceeds from streams and royalties to the fundraising campaign.
He will also contribute direct fundraising efforts, a portion of ticket and merchandise sales, a Kickstarter campaign, and sponsor pledging to reach the ambitious goal, which would enable PoP to complete four schools within one year of its attainment.

?”My passion for education lies in its capacity to re-shape the root causes of virtually every single global misfortune, from poverty and disease to corruption and war,” explains Blau. “Access to education is a stimulating force for change and a core solution, not just a band-aid for symptomatic issues.”
While education has been his primary focus, Blau plans to allocate funds raised by BLUME to different causes in the future, enabling listeners to weigh in via social media.

Blau also hopes to share the eye-opening firsthand experience he received in Guatemala three years ago by bringing eight fans on a trip to visit future schools and shooting a documentary film.
“It was the most potent representation of hope I had ever seen, as these families came to realize that their children would now have more opportunity to grow than ever before,” he says. “I hope to share a documentary of our adventure, encouraging others to join our cause and further contributing to the movement PoP so powerfully ignited, a movement supporting global access to quality education.”
