Axel Alonso loves hip-hop. He also happens to be sitting in the same chair, metaphorically at least, as Stan Lee once did. As Editor-in-Chief of Marvel Comics, Alonso has a front-row seat to a new era in comic book appreciation, with Marvel Studios’ film output bringing the company’s characters to a global audience (while netting about $3 billion dollars).
“I see more and more hip-hop on the page,” Alonso tells Billboard. Curious, we asked if he could provide some examples, and boy, did he deliver. Here then, a gallery of hip-hop inspired art, hand-picked by the Editor-in-Chief of Marvel.
