LGBTQ Stars Who Have Come Out in 2018 So Far

With 20-gayteen in full-swing, we have witnessed celebrities speak up for the LGBTQ community, participate in active allyship with queer fans and challenge society's perception of gender and sexuality at large.

This year, many stars have felt empowered to openly embrace their own queerness as well. Here are the stars that have come out in 2018 so far:

Jason Mraz

Speculation regarding Mraz's sexuality rose when he ended the poem he wrote for Billboard's pride month series saying "I am bi your side." Since then, he confirmed with Billboard that he indeed has "had experiences with men, even while I was dating the woman who became [his] wife" (Christina Carano).

Janelle Monae

Janelle Monáe has never actively hid her queerness from the world, sporting genderless red carpet looks and releasing suggestive tracks like “Q.U.E.E.N.” while she explored her own identity, as she told Rolling Stone when she came out in their cover story in April.

Brendon Urie

Married to Sarah Orzechowski for five years, the Panic! at the Disco frontman casually came out in July telling PAPER magazine off-the-cuff, “I guess you could qualify me as pansexual because I really don't care.”

Rita Ora

Following the backlash she received from her 2018 collaboration “Girls,” the singer released a statement on Twitter in which she states, “I have had romantic relationships with women and men throughout my life and this is my personal journey.”

Bebe Rexha

Much like Ora, when asked about the "Girls" controversy on The Dan Wootton Interview, Rexha spoke frankly about welcoming both men and women into her romantic life. "At the end of the day I feel like we all just want to be loved and love and find love," she shared.

Daya

"Sit Still, Look Pretty" singer Daya came out during her Milwaukee Pride performance and mentioned her girlfriend in the sneak peek to her the music video for her new single "Safe."

Tessa Thompson

In the midst of buzz regarding her rumored romantic involvement with Monáe, Thompson told Net-A-Porter, "I'm attracted to men and also to women." As far as relationship talk goes, "it doesn't bother [her]."

Lee Pace

After unintentionally coming out in response to an "intrusive question" in a W magazine interview, Lee Pace, currently performing in Angels In America on Broadway, took to Twitter to make a statement about living openly as a member of the queer community.

Alyson Stoner

"I can love people of every gender identity and expression," the former Disney Channel star wrote in an essay for Teen Vogue. "It is the soul that captivates me." On her song "When It's Right," she talks about falling in love with a woman for the first time.

Amandla Stenberg

Previously identifying as bisexual, Amandla Stenberg came out as gay in June in an interview with singer and speculated girlfriend King Princess for Wonderland, in which they share, "I was so overcome with this profound sense of relief." Stenberg also indentifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns as well as she/her pronouns.

Kevin McHale

After sparking rumors with an ambiguous Instagram photo holding hands with someone, the former Glee cast member came out in April with the help of Ariana Grande's comeback single, tweeting "#NoTearsLeftToCry is gayer than me and I ACCEPT. Ty @ArianaGrande."

Abbi Jacobson

In April, the Broad City co-star Abbi Jacobson shared with Vanity Fair that she "kind of goes both ways," dating both men and women, though she kept from confining herself to a label.

Felix Jaehn

Felix Jaehn, the German producer who rose to prominence with his remix of OMI's No. 1 hit "Cheerleader," came out as bisexual in February in an interview with the German magazine Zeit, looking forward to "finding the person [he] want[s] to share [his] life with, man or woman.”

Sasha Lane

Rising film starlet Sasha Lane discussed her sexuality for the first time at a Sundance Film Festival press junket promoting her new film The Miseducation of Cameron Post about which, she said, "The story really hit home for me, coming from a household where my brother’s gay and I’m gay."

Kandy

"I wish I had came out earlier," Mad Decent artist Kandy told Billboard when asked about coming out to his family earlier in 2018. "I feel like everybody says that they wish they did it earlier."

Joey Pollari

After coming out to his family when he was 18-years-old, Love, Simon actor Joey Pollari came out publicly in an interview with the Advocate, saying the film mirrored his experience as a queer teen.

Hennessy Carolina

Cardi B's sister Hennessy Carolina came out as bisexual in June via Instagram, writing "If you can’t accept the B In LGBTQ, then please don’t speak up for the community if you can’t fully understand ALL of us!"

Reece King

Model and social influencer Reece King opened up to Gay Times Magazine in February saying, for him, "it really isn’t important, so now I just say 'yeah, I am bisexual.'"
