On July 20, nonprofit foundation Oceanic Global held its first charity festival in Ibiza, bringing together speakers, artists, institutions and sustainable brands to help raise awareness for ocean conservation and benefit Posodonia Maps, a cartography project to protect the Mediterranean.
The first-time festival ran remarkably smoothly, especially in light of the fact that its organizers had overcome three venue changes in the four days prior to the event before securing its Agroturismo Atzaro Ibiza location a scant 12 hours prior to doors opening.
The free and all-ages event was headlined by standout house artist Solomun, with featured performance by BLOND:ISH, Lauren Lane, and Valentín Huedo, all of whom donated their time to the cause. Oceanic Ibiza also boasted immersive art installations, VR/AR experiences, an eco-friendly artisan marketplace, film screenings, and more.
The event's diverse slate of speakers included actor & co-founder of Lonely Whale Foundation, and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador, Adrian Grenier, Oceana board member Susan Rockefeller, National Geographic photographer Manu San Felix, Plastic Bank founder David Katz, Parsons School of Design dean Burak Cakmak and the United Nations Clean Seas Campaign's Petter Malvik.
As the first of Oceanic's city-by-city immersive experience series, the Ibiza event partnered with local and global institutions and organizations including The United Nations Environment Programme, The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Aquarius, Mission Blue, Bloom Association, Oceana, Beneath the Waves, Ibiza Preservation Fund, Lonely Whale, The Ocean Alliance, Plastic Oceans, Goldfish from Pluto, Gen-Gob Evissa, Green Heart Ibiza, The Abel Matutes Foundation, Proatso, The Ibiza Film Festival, and Ecovissa.
Featured artists included Alvaro Soler Arpa, Jorges P. Bruges, Soundwalk Collective, Roseline de Thelin, Russell Ord, Marc Osmo, and Joe Crossley, The Minx Fx, Barbara di Giacinto, Chris Leidy and Sumeria Creation.
