As part of our 30 Days of Pride initiative for Billboard, Internet sensation Connor Franta documented NYC Pride. The star has already flexed his photography chops in his latest book, Note to Self -- and was excited to shoot the LGBTQ festivities. Check out his images and captions below.
The people of New York City really turned out for the 2017 LGBTQ+ Pride Parade and brought with them a roar like no other. I’ve never been to NYC Pride. Well actually, I’ve only ever attended one other Pride event in my life, and that was last year in Los Angeles. I have little to compare it to, but after what I saw, it seems to be incomparable. I walked the streets of New York for three hours, and I must say, the diverse crowds were filled with endless joy, acceptance and glitter -- so much glitter. Every which way I turned I heard people exchanging compliments, giving high fives, laughing, cheering, dancing, and any other kind gesture you can think of. It was very contagious and although it was a hot one, I never found myself in a hurry to leave (until the dehydration hit -- then it was my time). I felt so comfortable, sweating aside these masses of people so unashamedly being their brightest and most authentic selves. I tried to captured the atmosphere in a candid style to hopefully show you what my eyes saw with a few photos. Enjoy and happy Pride, everyone!
