t’s been a whirlwind rush of fittings, front-row runway viewings, and backstage Snapchatting for Fabolous, the newly anointed ambassador to the CFDA’s Men’s Fashion Week. But beyond the opportunity to takeover the CFDA’s social channels -- and get outfitted in all of those designer duds -- the Brooklyn-born rapper, 39, says the real perk of the job is in the exchange of ideas with the creative forces he’s meeting, and the opportunity to bring the worlds of hip-hop and fashion closer together.
“Of course, you get to go to the shows,” he says. “But the relationships that are made the big perk for me. The relationship with CFDA is going to be a great partnership. With me connecting to their social and vice versa, you cross-promote to two different worlds and share the experience on both sides.” Here, he gives Billboard an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse into his fabulous Fabolous fashion week.
Above, the rapper checks out the latest collection from Ovadia & Sons with his stylist Emily B. “They showed me a lot of stuff they got going; it’s really cool, casually fly stuff,” he says. “That’s the kind of lane that I try to keep my fashion usually in -- not too uppity, not too out of the norm, but little touches that make it special. It was cool seeing some of the things they were doing and I can’t wait to see what their show’s going to be like.”
