Here at Billboard Style, we're in the business of trends. Music trends, fashion trends, which trends are trending (#trends), but our favorite is beauty trends. So we asked two celebrity makeup artists -- Tina Turnbow and Clarissa Luna -- to let us in on what they think will be the biggest beauty knockouts of 2017. Click through to see all five.
A Bold Lip
"One trend I see happening all year would be a bold lip," Clarissa Luna, makeup artist to Kelsea Ballerini, Fifth Harmony, Tinashe and more, says. "Whether it be a non-conventional or a stereotypically color from another season, bold lips keep making a statement on red carpets everywhere." Luna's favorites? "I love Colourpop Cosmetics Ultra Matte Lip colors for their vibrancy and longevity. They are bae."
A Subtle Contour and Highlight
Gone are the days of the clown contour and Kim K. fish face. Tina Turnbow, celebrity makeup artist who's worked with everyone from St.Vincent to Kerri Russell, thinks a subtle highlight and contour will be huge in 2017. "Creams that blend in and become part of your natural bone structure, rather than too many powders which lay on top, are great," she says. For a natural, dewy and structured look, Turnbow's favorite is the Tata Harper Luminous Definition: How to Contour and Highlight Kit ($77).
"One of my favorite trends moving forward in 2017 is the use of facial oils on both women and men," Luna, who puts a drop or two into foundation to create a luminous finish for Ballerini (and her other clients), says. "The best oil I've used is by Rachel's Plan Bee ($20). It's an all-organic oil that my red carpet beauties always request because of the finish and the scent (orange creamsicle). Word on the streets is that even Usher is a huge fan!"
"One of my favorite comebacks of 2017 is the return of the shimmery eye," Luna, who also does Tori Kelly's makeup, says. "Where 2016 was filled with '90s influenced matte makeup, I see the return of Studio 54 disco eyes. My favorite palette is the Moondust palette by Urban Decay. It's every shade of sparkle heaven you would ever need. Le freak...so chic!"
Alicia Keys has really spearheaded the "no makeup makeup" look, and Turnbow thinks that trend will continue into 2017, saying "it's quite refreshing." The key to nailing this look is glowing skin, so we suggest a nourishing moisturizer like Kiehl's Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream.
