The news that Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston were dating dominated headlines and interest for the entire duration of their relationship, which only lasted about three months. Though they made the most of their short relationship, as they documented their world travels and Swift’s somewhat iconic 4th of July holiday party. The public displays proved too much for Swift, though, as she was the one to end the relationship.
While a good deal of speculation -- and drama -- surrounded this short-lived relationship, Bieber and Richie never officially confirmed they were dating. Rather, a handful of Instagram posts (from back when Bieber used the social media platform) and Tweets from Richie served as verification that the two were more than just friends. Now that they have split, though, there appears to be no bad blood between the two as they remain friends.

Hollywood’s golden couple Brangelina seemingly shocked the world when they announced their split in September of 2016. Jolie filed for divorce after two years of marriage, and it has since been revealed their six children will remain in her custody. When the news first broke, it caused such a frenzy that Adele felt compelled to make light of the situation during one of her concerts, in which she sarcastically stated it’s “the end of an era.”
Lady Gaga & Taylor Kinney
After five years together and an engagement that lasted more than a year, Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney have split, according to reports on July 19. The couple got engaged on Valentine's Day 2015 but reportedly called it quits in July 2016.
Zayn Malik & Gigi Hadid
Zayn Malik and Gigi Hadid dated for seven months, after the former One Directioner first confirmed the relationship with a black-and-white Instagram photo of the pair back in December. The singer and model have both kept mum about their personal lives since breakup rumors surfaced at the beginning of June. But according to reports, apparently as quickly as they split, they were back on.

Early in December 2016, it was announced that Sia and husband Erik Anders Lang were separating after two years of marriage. The two were engaged in June of 2014 and later got married in August; though true to form, Sia didn’t confirm the marriage until eight months later while on an Australian radio show.
Rumours spread in summer of 2015 that Hillary Duff had started seeing someone new following her divorce from Mike Comrie in March of 2015. While Duff had been seen out with personal trainer Jason Walsh, nothing was confirmed until October of 2016, when Duff shared a photo of her and Walsh kissing on Instagram. Following the public divorce of Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon, Carey started dating Australian billionaire James Packer in June of 2015. The romance appeared to be going well enough, as the two announced their engagement in January of 2016 -- a deal that was sealed with a 35 carat ring. By October of this year, though, the engagement was called off; the two split over a handful of differences.
Jennifer Lopez & Casper Smart
J.Lo and Casper Smart first started dating back in 2011, though didn’t confirm their relationship until July of 2012. For the years that followed, the two were on-again, off-again though officially ended things in August of 2016 following rumours that 29-year-old Smart had allegedly cheated on Lopez. Following the split, Lopez posted a photo on Instagram of herself standing over sidewalk graffiti in New York that read, “Protect your heart.”
Bella Thorne & Gregg Sulkin
These two young Disney stars had been friends for years before they started dating in August of 2015. They were so certain of their future together that by Spring of 2016, they had bought a house. Though by August of 2016, news broke that Thorne and Sulkin were breaking up but shared a mutual statement saying they will always love one another.

The news that Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber were breaking up also came as a shock to all. The couple, who had been married for 11 years, announced their separation in late September of 2016. They released a statement sharing how they would continue to raise their children together, which appears to be true from the Instagram photos both Watts and Schreiber have shared since.

After dating for nearly two years, Josh Groban and Kat Dennings called it quits in late July of 2016. Iggy Azalea and Lakers player Nick Young were engaged for a year before announcing the end of their engagement on June 19. Their relationship hit a roadblock in late March when a video of Nick Young discussing his affairs with other women leaked. "Unfortunately although I love Nick and have tried and tried to rebuild my trust in him -- it’s become apparent in the last few weeks I am unable to,” Iggy said in a somber Instagram post. "I genuinely wish Nick the best.”
Demi Lovato & Wilmer Valderrama
Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama dated for six years, with many questioning if the two would walk down the aisle. "I am very, very in love with him. I think -- we will probably wait a little bit longer, but -- if he asked me tomorrow I would say yes," the singer admitted in an interview last summer. The couple decided to part ways and announced it to their fans via Twitter and Instagram on June 3: "This was an incredibly difficult decision for the both of us, but we have realized more than anything that we are better as best friends."

Scream Queens actress Lea Michele faced a fair amount of criticism for dating Matthew Paetz a year after the passing of on-and-off-screen boyfriend Cory Monteith. "I love my fans. They're incredible and they were really a part of my whole story and my whole journey with me, so I do come from a place of understanding, but it's also really hard," she said in a Billboard interview back in January. "You know, every time I post a picture, then it's just a landslide of comments that talk about my past and bring that up rather than projecting positivity." The actress-singer and the aspiring model dated for nearly two years before calling it quits in February.
