So, on Thursday night (March 11) he did what he’s been doing since last March: he threw a virtual killer party with a bunch of his A-list friends to celebrate the anniversary of “The Yungblud Show Live.”
The YouTube Music Nights livestream was a benefit for the NIVA Emergency Relief Fund — which supports independent venues across the nation — with assists from Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee and Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, as well as a duet with Avril Lavigne and a drop-in from Blud’s good buddy Machine Gun Kelly.
The singer also roped in appearances from Lil Huddy and KSI as part of the Samsung Galaxy Thursday weekly series spotlighting emerging artists.
In a statement recalling his first lockdown livestream a year ago this week, Yungblud said, “This was a monumental moment in my career. It became bigger than any of us ever anticipated. I’m craving to get back on stage every single day and can’t wait to do this with some incredible guests. It’s been so hard for independent venues. I wanted to partner with NIVA because independent venues are the backbone of the music industry and give young artists the chance to have their music heard. everyone has been missing a rock n roll show, I think it’s about time we gave them one!”
Wearing a red suit with hair to match, the hour-long show from the Troubadour in Los Angeles kicked off with the punk pop Weird! album track “Clarity,” which segued into a bit with Lil Huddy in which Yungblud tortured a marketing staffer from his label by giving him a one-minute punk makeover, as well as a blindfolded cooking segment with KSI.
MGK then dropped in for a raucous duet on “I Think I’m Okay,” while Lavigne sang an unplugged “I’m With You” duet with the host and Renforshort got a solo spotlight for her 2020 song “I Drive Me Mad.”
The party ended with Lee on drums and Navarro shredding on guitar as Yungblud sprayed champagne and strutted along to “3 Strange Days” by beloved early 1990s L.A. alt-rock band School of Fish.
