Weezer doesn’t have a label, but that’s not stopping Rivers Cuomo and company from hitting us with new music.
Yesterday (Nov. 3), Weezer followed “Thank God For Girls” with “Do You Wanna Get High?” a very Weezer-sounding rock song about drugs and girls, premiered on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show. Have a listen below:
Cuomo annotated the song for Genius (like he did for “Thank God For Girls”) and revealed its druggy theme was inspired by the pill-snorting nights he shared with a girlfriend around 2000 and 2001. In fact, he mentions it’s the same girl who inspired The Green Album’s final song, “O Girlfriend.”
“I remember hanging out with Fred Durst around that time too,” he adds.
But Cuomo says he avoids pills now (save for Advil) and keeps track of all his substances in a handy Google Doc:
“I have a milligram scale to measure any kind of addictive substance I might be taking, for example, caffeine. I keep track of it all in google docs and taper my withdrawals to minimize discomfort.”
So if you catch Cuomo at the club, heading into the bathroom with scale and laptop in hand, you know what’s up.
