Pearl Jam Changes Lyrics, Dedicates ‘Love Boat Captain’ to Paris Attack Victims
The rock band marked the one-week anniversary of the tragedy by covering EODM’s “I Want You So Hard (Boy’s Bad News)” during its show in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, on Friday (Nov. 20). “We’ve never played this,” frontman Eddie Vedder said before launching into the song.
On Nov. 14, the day after the Paris shootings, Pearl Jam performed its song 2002 track “Love Boat Captain” in São Paulo. The song is about nine fans that were killed at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival in 2000.

Vedder altered the song’s lyrics to honor the victims in Paris. Typically, he sings, “Lost nine friends we’ll never know, two years ago today” to reflect the amount of years since 2000. This time, Vedder sang, “Lost 90 friends we’ll never know, oh, again today.”
