After months of hyping “Harmony Hall” and “This Life” as singles, Ezra Koenig and company turned the spotlight to a new FOTB cut for last night (Sept. 12)’s Late Show performance: the mysterious “Sympathy” — a track that manages to be metal- and flamenco-inspired at the same time.
Playing Colbert at New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater, the expanded live band Vampire Weekend’s been rocking on this tour really got to show its stuff. New members Brian Robert Jones and Greta Morgan traded danceable guitar licks with Koenig, while OG drummer Chris Tomson provided the double bass drum attack alongside new percussionist Garrett Ray.
Last Friday, Vampire Weekend was in New York for its sold out Madison Square Garden concert — the first of the New York-bred band’s career.
“Sympathy” also found its way into a new ad for the latest Apple Watch; find that clip below, following the Late Show with Stephen Colbert performance.
