Valerie Bertinelli is mourning the loss of her ex-husband Eddie Van Halen, who died earlier this week at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer.
The actress shared a number of sweet, wistful photos to her Instagram Stories on Thursday night (Oct. 8), including a snap of the two hugging on the night they met in 1980. To the tune of Van Halen’s “Cathedral,” Bertinelli also posted another photo from that night Shreveport, Louisiana, plus others from Christmas 1980, the Los Angeles Forum in 1981 and one at the carousel in Central Park in 1993 with their son, Wolfgang.

“40 years ago my life changed forever when I met you,” Bertinelli wrote following EVH’s death. “You gave me the one true light in my life, our son, Wolfgang. Through all your challenging treatments for lung cancer, you kept your gorgeous spirit and that impish grin. I’m so grateful Wolfie and I were able to hold you in your last moments. I will see you in our next life my love.”
