The Supreme Court’s legalization of same sex marriage has Bono being all Bono-y again. And after his cycling injury delayed U2’s North American Innocence + Experience Tour, it’s good to have him back at full force.
When U2 performed “Pride (In the Name of Love)” Sunday night (June 28) in Chicago’s United Center, the U2 frontman rechristened it “Gay Pride (In the Name of Love). Check out the video below:
“This is our America!” Bono shouts into a stars n’ stripes megaphone, before the band launches into the Unforgettable Fire hit. In the bridge he breaks it down and calls for messages of love to be sent to Baltimore, Ferguson and Charleston.
After the band’s native Ireland legalized gay marriage on May 23, U2 dedicated the same song to the cause at its show that night in Phoenix.
On July 2, U2 plays one final date (the fifth of five!) in the United Center before moving on to Toronto.
