Mom is gonna be so mad. Though Twenty One Pilots long ago graduated to rocking arenas, the Columbus, Ohio, duo take things back to the basement in the brand new video for the Trench track “The Hype.” The clip, which dropped on Friday morning (July 26), finds singer/bassist Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun playing a suburban rec room for a small group of friends, most of whom are just chilling on the floor and barely paying attention to the performance.
The visual from frequent collaborator director Andrew Donoho and Reel Bear Media then shifts to a more crowded basement gig, before the duo set up on the roof of the bland, split-level ranch house, whose shingles they promptly blow to bits with the force of the hard-thumping track.
“Nice to know my kind will be on my side/ I don’t believe the hype/ And you know you’re a terrible sight/ But you’ll be just fine/ Just don’t believe the hype, Joseph sings in a deadpan on the chorus as the song winds out and he grabs a roll of duct tape to fix some of the damage before the ‘rents get back and notice.
