Toro Y Moi, also known as Chaz Bear, announced on Tuesday (Oct. 23) that he will be releasing his sixth studio album next year. Outer Peace, which follows 2017’s Boo Boo, is set to release via Carpark Records on Jan. 18, 2019. Guest appearances on Outer Peace include Abra, WET and Instupendo featuring on three of the album’s 10 tracks.
Written in his Oakland, Calif. hometown after spending a year in Portland, Ore., Outer Peace was written in reaction to the stifling environment he came back to. “This record is a response to how disposable culture has become and how it affects creativity,” says Moi. “While listening, you might pay attention or ignore — either way that’s ok, this is music for a creative mind.”
Along with the announcement, Moi debuted “Freelance,”Outer Peace‘s lead single and first video. The artsy video for the Auto-Tune-heavy, house and funk-infused track sees Moi in a technicolor workspace, offering viewers a brief look into his song production process.
Moi will be heading on the road this fall for his Outer Peace North American Tour, which begins in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Nov. 1, and was initally set to wrap in Columbia, S.C. on Nov. 17. Moi has extended the 12-date tour, adding 10 extra dates between January and March 2019 with major stops in Miami, Dallas and San Francisco. Tickets for the 2019 shows go on sale at 11:00 a.m. local time, and are available at toroymoi.com/shows.
