Radiohead’s Thom Yorke released the song “Has Ended” off the upcoming Suspiria (2018) score Wednesday (Oct. 3).
The ballad involves eerie noises, repetitive bass notes and a simple drum pattern. The 49-year-old rocker’s voice joins around a minute in, with the lines, “I woke up in a city/The soldiers had come home.”
While the chilling track has few lines and little structure, Yorke’s singing strengthens on the chorus-like line, “Saying we won’t make this mistake again.” Later, the drums and bass drop out, lending the song one of many noticeably unsettling moments.
The track was released alongside a trippy, bright blue and pink animated video depicting vague humanlike shapes to match the lyrics. It’s the second song (following “Suspirium” on Sept. 4) Yorke has released off his 25-song soundtrack for Luca Guadagnino’s remake of the 1977 horror cult classic.
Suspiria‘s score drops the day of the film’s U.S. release (Oct. 26) via XL Recordings.
