Leave it to a Jared Leto-fronted rock band to tease a fifth studio album like a fifth installment in a summer blockbuster action series.
Thirty Seconds to Mars dropped a very cinematic trailer nearly a year ago, and on Tuesday (June 13), they’re back to the same tricks on social media. With this sort of bombast and long-term buildup, the arena rockers are as on-brand as they’ve ever been.
Check out the new visuals below. In the first (tagged with the catchphrase, “NEW ALBUM / COMING SOON”), a masked Leto walks out from a cluster of tour buses to a swell of strings over dramatic rock percussion. The second — sans video — reads, “YES THIS IS A CULT.”

In August, the band promised the new album would arrive via Interscope Records some time during 2017. No specific date has been announced, though a representative for the band tells Billboard it’s still on schedule for this year.
Thirty Seconds to Mars’ previous album, 2013’s Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams (and the three studio efforts before it), arrived through Virgin Records.
In the meantime, Leto and company have a handful of summer ’17 live dates lined up, as they tour the U.S. with Muse and PVRIS.
