The XX have released a 21-minute mini-documentary chronicling their historic week-long residency at London’s Brixton Academy. The film features behind-the-scenes clips, live concert footage and interviews with the band. Directed by Tayo Rapoport and Josh Renaut, the short also packs in comments from some of the series’ special guests, including Robyn and Savages‘ Jehnny Beth.
“Coming back to Brixton and just seeing how everyone just co-exists really beautifully, I love that,” says XX singer Romy Croft in the film. “‘Night + Day’ was originally just an idea to do something a bit different, and a bit more than just a gig. To be honest, we didn’t know that these Brixton shows were going to become ‘Night + Day’ – it just sort of happened in an organic way because we were suddenly playing all these shows.”
Cat Power, Sampha and Florence + the Machine‘s Florence Welch also joined The XX during the run and the film features footage of film screenings and discussions held around the shows, as well as some of the charities that received funds from the events.
