The War on Drugs announced on Thursday (June 1) that their fourth full-length album, A Deeper Understanding, is set for release this summer on August 25 via Atlantic.
Along with the indie rockers’ announcement, the band shared a new single, “Holding On.” The song carries the Philadelphia-based band’s hazy, nostalgic sound along with glistening production. With the gentle grittiness of frontman Adam Granduciel’s voice and the band’s fuzzed out guitar sounds, it’s exceedingly easy to drift away to the sound of “Holding On.”
According to a release, Granduciel split his time between New York and Los Angeles to write and record the album, frequently calling upon his band mates for ideas, and collaborating with engineer Shawn Everett — who has also worked with the likes of Alabama Shakes and Weezer.
A Deeper Understanding follows up the War on Drug’s highly acclaimed 2014 record Lost in the Dream, and the band will be touring behind the record this fall. Tickets are available now here.
