The Gorillaz have teamed up with a lot of interesting acts for their ongoing Song Machine series, but the latest effort in their their year-long project promises a collab with someone who is surely one of their all-time heroes.
The virtual act tweeted out a framed image of the four animated group members standing on the surface of a red planet in their colorful space suits, with a floating image of The Cure singer Robert Smith floating in a ghostly darkness behind them.
The as-yet-untitled song with Smith is the sixth in the Song Machine series, following on the heels of “Pac-Man” with ScHoolboy Q, “Friday 13th” with Octavian, “How Far?” with Tony Allen and Skepta, “Aries” with Peter Hook and Georgia, Fatoumata Diawara on “Désolé” and January’s “Momentary Bliss” with Slowthai and Slaves.
A release date for the Smith song has not yet been announced.
