The Black Keys surprised fans with “Lo/Hi,” their first release since 2014 album Turn Blue, on Thursday (March 7).
The blues-rock track is a return to form for the band, with trademark distorted guitar riffs and a soulful tinge to the chorus. “Out on the land in the wind of a hurricane/ Down at the bar like a star in the howlin’ rain/ Nobody to love you/ Nobody to care/ If you got nobody to hug you/ No one to answer,” Dan Auerbach laments on the first verse.
The track was recorded at Nashville’s Easy Eye Sound studio, according to a release, and produced by Auerbach and Patrick Carney. An album or tour has yet to be announced; the band’s last live performance was at the 2015 Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival in San Francisco, California.
