Tegan and Sara have revealed the colorful, ’90s-inspired video for “I’ll Be Back Someday” Tuesday (Aug. 27).
The Natalie Fält-directed video is an “an ode to anxiety” and features the duo in a sort of waiting room, performing in front of different-colored walls and donning several stylish outfits — edgy boots, retro sneakers, patterned button-downs and more.
“We worked with our favourite stylist in the world, Toyo Tsuchiya for the looks for this video,” the two shared with their fans. (Tsuchiya also dressed the duo for the 2015 Oscars.) “She is so good and understands our style so well, she has really nailed the 90s inspired but modern vibes we have wanted for Hey, I’m Just Like You,” they added.
The video also features some props, like a wild-patterned electric guitar and a landline telephone, which according to the sisters, is “one of the key elements of our high school lives.” The phone cord also draws a parallel to their 2008 video for “Call It Off.”
“I’ll Be Back Someday” is the lead single from their forthcoming ninth album Hey, I’m Just Like You, which is a return to the songs the sisters wrote back in the ’90s when they were between the ages of 15 and 17. It is set for release on Sept. 27 via Sire Records.
