Explosions in the Sky aren’t too thrilled about their 2003 song “Your Hand in Mine” being used in the clip, likely because the Austin band stands against an awful lot of things Cruz and Abbott rep. With the Texas Republican set for March 1, Cruz may have to look elsewhere for a soundtrack. Even Friday Night Lights, a much more liberal-friendly Texas institution, got denied permission to use the song (the show wound up going with a sound-alike) so the precedent is hardly new.
Still, Explosions in the Sky have not indicated they plan on taking any legal action against the ad.
