Texas senator/Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz recently gained the endorsement of his state’s governor, Greg Abbott. In making a little video to get the word out, why not use the music from some of the capital city’s favorite hometown post-rockers?

Explosions in the Sky aren’t too thrilled about their 2003 song “Your Hand in Mine” being used in the clip, likely because the Austin band stands against an awful lot of things Cruz and Abbott rep. The Stoner’s Journal brought the issue to the band’s attention via Twitter, and Explosions replied they are “absolutely not okay with it.”

With the Texas Republican set for March 1, Cruz may have to look elsewhere for a soundtrack. Even Friday Night Lights, a much more liberal-friendly Texas institution, got denied permission to use the song (the show wound up going with a sound-alike) so the precedent is hardly new.
Still, Explosions in the Sky have not indicated they plan on taking any legal action against the ad.
