Creating a modern holiday standard is something of a rarity in the music world, but acclaimed singer-songwriter Jose Feliciano achieved that feat during the Christmas season of 1970 with his composition “Feliz Navidad.” The song was ranked by ASCAP in 2013 as one of the 25 most played Christmas songs of all time.
While Feliciano’s original remains the standard, many superstars have recorded the song over the years – from Celine Dion to Luciano Pavarotti to Garth Brooks. Even former Baywatch star David Hasselhoff cut a version of the song. For 2017, add alt country/Americana group Susto to that list. The band recorded a new version of the song for Amazon Music’s Original Playlist, and Billboard is excited to bring you the promotional video for the track. The band’s Justin Osborne says that he feels the band caught the message of unity and cheer of the song.
“We had a great time making the video for ‘Feliz Navidad,’” Osborne tells Billboard. “We were able to film it at the legendary Santa’s Pub in Nashville, and director Joshua Shoemaker did a wonderful job creating the right environment for the shoot. We had envisioned a psychedelic vibe blurring the lines between classic lounge shows and an office Christmas party for elves and reindeer. I think we got pretty close.”
Susto is on the road promoting their latest album & I’m Fine Today through Dec. 22, and will be wrapping up 2017 with a performance in Mexico at La Morena in Todos Santos.
