Sufjan Stevens may never revisit his 50 States project, but what if he did the same thing for Canadian provinces and started with Ontario? You better believe he’d start with Toronto, and by Toronto, we mean the six.
And by that, we mean he’d most definitely be covering “Hotline Bling” with a giant photo of Drake’s face behind him. That is exactly what went down in Jersey City, NJ over the weekend. Sufjan and Gallant (the tour’s opening act) closed things off on Oct. 31 with a rendition of Drizzy’s highly meme-able hit. And it’s a really good cover. With dancing. Seriously.
Check it out below:
The pair does a great job of trading off vocals. Just when it looks like it’s going to be mostly Gallant — with Sufjan just there to dance and hit a few assorted high notes — Sufjan jumps in for the second verse and it’s just money from there.
Stevens is touring in support of his very good 2015 album Carrie & Lowell, which will make you very sad, but will surely appear on many year-end ‘best of’ lists.
