Sting is set to reopen the Bataclan concert hall on Nov. 12, one day before the anniversary of last year’s deadly Paris terror attacks, which saw 90 killed within the venue and 130 across the city in a series of terrorist actions at local bars and restaurants and outside of a stadium.
The British rock star will play songs form his new album 57th & 9th to benefit the charities Life for Paris and 13 Novembre Fraternite Verite, designed to support the victims of the attacks, their family members, caregivers and loved ones.
“In re-opening the Bataclan, we have two important tasks to reconcile. First, to remember and honor those who lost their lives in the attack a year ago, and second to celebrate the life and the music that this historic theatre represents,” Sting said in a statement published on the site. “In doing so we hope to respect the memory as well as the life affirming spirit of those who fell. We shall not forget them.”
He’ll be joined on stage by Dominic Miller and Rufus Miller on guitar and Vinnie Colauita on drums.
Following Sting, Pete Doherty of The Libertines fame, will perform at the Bataclan on Nov. 16 and 17. Marianne Faithfull will play on Nov. 25. Both performers are French residents; Faithfull lives in the capital while Doherty lives in the sleepy suburb of Melun.
Tickets for Sting’s show will go on sale Nov. 8 on the venue’s website.
