State Champs are one of the most infectiously fun pop-punk bands out there. If you’re invested in the genre, you’re already familiar. If you’re on the fence, their sophomore album Around the World and Back (due Oct. 16) is one to mark your calendar for, and we’ve got the premiere of the brand new video for “All You Are Is History.” Yup, it’s a breakup song.
“‘All You Are Is History’ is a song about putting someone behind you, despite their efforts to hang out,” guitarist Tyler Szalkowski tells Billboard. “We think the video represents that theme very well.”
No argument there! Not only does it involve the timeless pop-punk breakup themes, but a little bit of heartbreak nostalgia via a camcorder and a VHS tape.
“The video was a blast to make and [director] Max Moore was awesome to work with. We’re very happy with how this turned out!”
The slick hooks run through the chorus like a Slip’N Slide, Derek DiScanio’s vocal sneer is on point, and Evan Ambrosio adds some tight drum fills to the mix. In other words, get excited for the sophomore album.
State Champs have toured with 5 Seconds of Summer in the past, and for their upcoming fall trek, they’re hitting the road via an intriguing, scene-hopping bill with the Wonder Years, Motion City Soundtrack, and You Blew It!. Those dates — along with a bunch of others and album pre-sales — are on their official site.
