St. Vincent released a cinematic preview of her upcoming album, Daddy’s Home, on Tuesday morning (March 2).
In the teaser, the singer frantically runs through an empty apartment building to answer a retro rotary dial phone. The clip opens with the singer (born Annie Clark) sprinting up steps in a trench coat as she hectically looks around while the phone rings in the background.
As the song bubbles up, Clark dashes to pick up green handset and a man’s voice greets her while sitar-like guitar riff plays and the title of her upcoming album, Daddy’s Home (due out on May 14) pops up in a retro-70s sitcom-style font.
The teaser also includes a phone number fans can call — 1 (833) 77-DADDY — which leads to a recording of the singer saying “hello?” and what sounds like a long-lost promo for a disco-era movie promo featuring a voiceover that warns, “She’s back in a new role like you’ve never seen her before. Featuring the new single ‘Pay Your Way in Pain.’ Nobody expected it, nobody believed it and nobody could stop it. Daddy’s Home.”
A release date for “Pay Your Way in Pain” has not yet been announced. Last week Clark popped up in a new viral poster campaign promoting the follow-up to 2017’s Masseduction. The teaser featured copy that read, “St. Vincent is back with a record of all-new songs. Warm Wurlitzers and wit, glistening guitars and grit, with sleaze and style for days. Taking you from uptown to downtown with the artist who makes you expect the unexpected. So sit back, light up, and by all means have that bourbon waiting because… DADDY’S Home.”
