Slayer’s July 21 Comic Con show began with applause. A lot of applause! So much applause, that frontman Tom Araya had to finally just interrupt and thank everybody so they’d settle down and Slayer could play some songs. “Are you guys going to get animated?” he asked, going no-holds-barred with the Comic Con puns. Unfortunately one front row fan at the San Diego House of Blues did get very animated, or just impossibly vulgar.

Someone smacked Araya with a close range loogie and someone (else, hopefully) caught the whole thing on camera. The spit wad lands around the 3:45 mark; it’s hard to notice in the video, but you can certainly notice the frontman’s reaction.
Avaya doesn’t seem especially angry; he’s more surprised than anything, never thinking that someone who’d put in the time, effort and money to get so close at a Slayer show would literally spit on him. People are strange. For the longest time, all Araya can come up with are about 18 “What was that about?”s until the audience finally chants the spitter to expulsion from the venue.
