Many music fans learned of the death of former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland by reading a (since-deleted) tweet from Dave Navarro at midnight Thursday night. “So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight,” his musical contemporary wrote.
Scott Weiland, Former Singer of Stone Temple Pilots, Dead at 48
And Navarro wasn’t the only fellow musician mourning the loss of the megatalented, and often troubled, singer, who also fronted supergroup Velvet Revolver and, most recently, Scott Weiland & the Wildabouts. The 48-year-old singer was reportedly found dead on a tour bus in Minnesota.
Perry Farrell — Jane’s Addiction frontman and founder of Lollapalooza — sent this exclusive statement to Billboard: “He had a way of getting into the music, like few people can. He contributed songs we’ll never forget to the musical library the whole world sings. As a musician that’s all you could ask for. He’d probably like it if you put on one of his songs and rock out.”
