Sam Smith’s new James Bond jam “Writing’s on the Wall” has been faring very well in the United Kingdom. But a veteran James Bond theme performer says he’s seen better.
Speaking to Gigwise at the Q Awards, Duran Duran frontman Simon Le Bon spoke in support of the band’s 1985 Bond song, “A View to Kill.” “I caught a little bit of [“Writing’s on the Wall”]; it’s not my favorite — I prefer ours”.
But he did show the 23-year old singer some love: “But he’s Sam Smith. He’s got a beautiful voice and I’m a big fan of him. I support him and what he stands for.”

Spectre, the new 007 film featuring Smith’s ballad, will be released Oct. 26 in the U.K. and Nov. 6 in the U.S.
