On the 36th anniversary of John Lennon‘s murder, widow Yoko Ono posted a plea for gun control in the United States. “The death of a loved one is a hollowing experience,” Ono wrote, citing shocking statistics about about the toll gun violence takes every year. Lennon was shot and killed by Mark David Chapman outside the Dakota — the New York apartment building he lived in with Ono and their son, Sean Lennon — on Dec. 8, 1980.
“Together, let’s bring back America, the green land of Peace,” Ono wrote, pointedly refashioning the phrase that served as a slogan for president-elect Donald Trump’s campaign.
The solemn day was marked by a number of others as well, including Sean Lennon, the Beatles‘ official Facebook page, Creation Records found Alan Mcgee and Blur’s Graham Coxon.
