Los Angeles-based alternative band Rad Horror are taking action to counteract the negativity shrouding our modern times with their latest single “Mad at the World,” available exclusively today (Sept. 6) via Billboard.
The four-piece, led by Dylan Jackson Scott, takes a page from ’90s alt-rock pioneers like Nirvana and early-’00s revivalists like The Strokes, while pushing the genre forward into new territory. With straightforward, confessional lyrics and a grungy, minimalist intro that unfolds into biting distortion, the band strikes a melodic nerve that is catchy without losing any edge. Despite the broad target suggested by the song’s title and refrain, Jackson Scott narrows his sights to a more personal grievance.
“I don’t think I understand the music industry. Maybe it doesn’t understand me,” Jackson Scott tells Billboard. “You could say I’m mad at the world, but maybe I’m just mad at all the posers appropriating rock and roll and hip hop to create bad music.”
