Earlier this month, we broke news of a supergroup featuring three fourths of Rage Against the Machine (minus Zack de la Rocha) partnered with Public Enemy’s Chuck D and Cypress Hill’s B-Real. Today (May 31) Prophets of Rage formally announced its existence, along with its first show.
The new band will make its live premiere tonight at Los Angeles’ storied Sunset Blvd. venue Whisky a Go Go. Tickets (via wristband) go on sale at 10 a.m. local time and are only available at the venue’s box office.
Following an opening set from Public Enemy’s DJ Lord, the show is scheduled for a 9:30 p.m. start time.
Proceeds from the show will go towards PATH, a California-based family of anti-homelessness agencies.
The Rage members on board (guitarist Tom Morello, bassist Tim Commerford and drummer Brad Wilk) will perform songs from their band’s own catalog, as well as Public Enemy’s and Cypress Hill’s, in addition to new music. They’ve enlisted the rallying cry, #MakeAmericaRageAgain.
A countdown on the band’s official site promises another update “coming soon.” Check out their interview with KROQ this morning below.
