The post-reunion version of the Pixies has been around longer than the original version, and they’ve got plans to continue their run this year.
Today (Feb. 8) the band shared a video titled “Pixies – 2016,” all but assuring they’ve got new music planned for before the year is out. The 20-second, black-and-white clip features photos of band members Black Francis, David Lovering, Joey Santiago and Paz Lenchantin doing work in a recording studio, while a flash of guitar whirs by.
Check it out below:
In 2014, the Pixies self-released Indie Cindy, their first full-length album since 1991. The LP features songs compiled from a series of EPs released between Sept. 2013 and March 2014. Since they’re a self-employed band with a devout fan base, there’s no reason they can’t employ another non-traditional release model this time around.
After splitting in 1993, the legendary college rock group reunited in 2003 and has been together ever since. It took another ten years for Pixies 2.0 to become the sort of band that regularly releases new material, but it appears that version is here to stay for the time being.
Extremely excited for a new @PIXIES album. Indie Cindy was my favorite record of 2014.
