Phil Anselmo drew a wave of criticism when he did a Nazi salute and yelled “white power” onstage at Jan. 22’s “Dimebag” Darrell tribute concert. After being called out by the likes of Machine Head frontman Robb Flynn and others, he has now been hit with a very real consequence.
Anselmo’s band Down has been axed from the Dutch music festival FortaRock.
“There has been close consultation between all parties recent days, since we wanted to make a well informed decision,” FortaRock announced on its official website. “On that basis, the decision is made to cancel the act. We want to make clear that there is no room for racism or fascism on FortaRock.”
“We are extremely disappointed with their decision,” a spokesperson for Down tells Billboard.

Down, one of the various musical projects Anselmo is involved in, is a metal “supergroup” featuring members of Corrosion of Conformity, Eyehategod and others. Aside from the canceled FortaRock performance, they currently have eight other European shows scheduled for June 2016.
Following the incident at the Los Angeles “Dimebag” concert, Anselmo recorded an apology video, asking fans for another chance.
Anselmo, who fronted Pantera from 1986 until 2003, is also a member of Superjoint and the owner of Housecore Records.
FortaRock is set to take place in the Netherlands municipality of Nijmegen on June 4 and 5. Artists like Volbeat, Megadeth and Disturbed are scheduled to perform.
