Eddie Vedder has been in a generous mood this holiday season. Earlier this week he donated $10,000 to a Maryland family after the mother posted online they were not only facing eviction but also had no money for holiday gifts. Now, it has been revealed that Vedder, along with the four other Pearl Jam members, have donated even larger sums to a separate cause.
Over a decade ago, a man named Keith Baxter saved Vedder’s life when he and two friends were involved in a boating accident. Now, Vedder has seized the opportunity to thank Baxter — who was in a serious boating accident himself just last year — in a big way.
All five members of Pearl Jam collectively donated $70,000 to Baxter’s GoFundMe campaign. While four of the five donations (all for the amount of $14,000) were contributed by “anonymous,” the fifth donation is credited to Stone Gossard, the band’s guitarist.
“Yes, it’s all true,” Baxter’s wife, Karen, told The Inertia via email. “Pearl Jam (Eddie, Stone, Jeff, Mike, and Matt) matched what was originally raised ($70K) through Gofundme.com.”
Baxter’s campaign now shows a total of over $140,000 raised, almost double the $75,000 goal.
