Paul Simon has been publicly contemplating his retirement for more than a year now. At 76 years old, the Simon & Garfunkel and solo star appears to have officially booked his final gig, or at least his British farewell.
According to a post from the Barclaycard British Summer Time Festival, Simon is slated to close the event on July 15 with special guests James Taylor & His All-Star Band and Bonnie Raitt in what is being billed as “Paul Simon: Homeward Bound The Farewell Performance.”
The poster promises more guests to be announced for the show, with pre-sale kicking off on Thursday (Feb. 1). Simon will close the massive summer festival, which will kick off on July 6 with Roger Waters and feature a July 7 show with Interpol, Goldfrapp, Editors, Ride, Slowdive and more, followed by Eric Clapton, Santana, Steve Winwood and Gary Clark Jr. (July 8), Michael Bublé (july 13) and Bruno Mars and Khalid (July 14).
A spokesperson for Simon could not be reached for comment about whether the BST show will be his final British performance or his last show ever. Over the course of a 60-year career the 12-time Grammy winner and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member has appeared in more than a dozen movies, composed a Broadway musical and released 13 solo albums, the most recent of which was 2016’s Stranger to Stranger.
