Beatles fans who are already digging deep into their wallets for the new John Lennon Imagine box set and the upcoming Beatles White Album 50th anniversary edition learned Friday (Oct. 19) they’ll have to dig a lot deeper, as Paul McCartney announced two new archive editions for the Wings albums Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway, and a third deluxe set combining both and adding an exclusive Wings Over Europe set. Both sets will feature the albums newly remastered at Abbey Road, plus outtakes and bonus footage. All will hit the streets on Dec. 7.
The four-disc Wild Life deluxe set ($149.98 through his website) will include 3 CDs and one DVD with the remastered album on one CD and additional 25 bonus audio tracks across two discs with rough album mixes, original single edits, B-sides, home recordings and previously unreleased tracks. The set will also have a DVD with unreleased acoustic home videos, rehearsals and behind-the-scenes footage. Besides the audio and video, the set will include a 128-page book featuring previously unpublished images taken by Linda McCartney, expanded album and single artwork from the McCartney archives with the story behind the album and expanded track-by-track information and new interviews with Paul McCartney and key album personnel written by David Fricke. A folio will also contain a 48-page scrapbook with tour diaries, lyrics and set lists, unpublished photos, plus lyrics, notes and memorabilia from the MPL archives. Buyers will also be able to download 24-bit 96kHz hi-res audio versions of the remastered album and bonus audio tracks.

The six-disc Red Rose Speedway deluxe set ($199.98 through his website) will have 3 CDs, 2 DVDs and a Blu-ray, and include a copy of the remastered album on one CD and two discs of 35 bonus audio tracks that reconstructs for the first time the originally planned double album version that was never made. In addition, the two discs will include singles, B-sides, alternate mixes and other unreleased tracks. A never-before-seen film, The Bruce McMouse Show, fully restored and remixed in stereo and 5.1 surround sound, will be included on both DVD and Blu-ray. Another DVD will have more rare and previously unseen footage including the vintage James Paul McCartney television special, plus interviews and music videos. Also in the package: a 128-page book containing previously unpublished images by Linda McCartney, expanded album and single artwork from the archives and the story behind the album with new interviews from Paul McCartney, and others involved in the making of the album, plus expanded track-by-track information, written by Amanda Petrusich; a 64-page photo book called Wings In Morocco; and a folio containing Paul McCartney’s hand-drawn original character sketches and dialogue sheets for The Bruce McMouse Show. In addition, the remastered album and bonus tracks will be available as 24bit 96kHz hi-res downloads.
The Wings Over Europe bonus material featured in the 11-disc Paul McCartney and Wings – 1971–73 limited edition box set selling for $399.95 through McCartney’s website will be a 20-track CD of the previously unreleased, newly mixed Wings Over Europe set recorded from five shows, an introduction from Paul McCartney discussing his memories of the 1972 tour, a 96-page photobook with previously unreleased images by Linda McCartney and a replica of the 1972 Wings Over Europe tour program. The tracks from the CD will also be available as 24-bit 96kHz hi-res downloads. The Wings Over Europe bonus is exclusive to the combined offering.
Besides the box sets, both Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway will also be available in configurations of 2 CDs and two 180 gram vinyl LPs. The 2-CD versions of Wild Life and Red Rose Speedway ($19.98) will each have the original remastered album on CD-1 and bonus audio from singles B-sides, and previously unreleased tracks on CD-2. The two-disc 180-gram vinyl version of Wild Life will contain the same tracks as the two-CD version. However, there will be two different two-disc vinyl versions of Red Rose Speedway. One will have the original remastered album on one disc and bonus audio of singles, B-sides, and previously unreleased tracks on the second and an 18-page booklet. A second will reconstruct the proposed “double album” vinyl version on LP for the first time from original acetates and master tapes. Both will retail for $39.98.
